Free shuttle to carry fans downtown for parade honoring NCAA champion team
LAWRENCE — A shuttle bus will be available this weekend to take fans from the University of Kansas campus to downtown Lawrence for the parade honoring the men’s basketball team.
The parade is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Seventh and Massachusetts streets. The parade will proceed south on Massachusetts to 19th Street, then turn right on 19th to Naismith Drive.
The shuttle service will run from 1 to 5 p.m. People may park in Lot 94, which is immediately east of Memorial Stadium, or in the Mississippi Street Parking Garage immediately north of the Kansas Union. The shuttle buses will pick up passengers along Mississippi Street at Lot 94 and at the parking garage. Buses will take passengers to the Douglas County Bank parking lot at 300 W. Ninth St. Buses will be staged there after the parade to take people back to Lot 94 and the parking garage.
The shuttle and parking are free. The shuttle is sponsored by Downtown Lawrence Inc., Douglas County Bank, Knoxville Racewear and KU on Wheels.
Lawrence police say alcohol-related laws will be strictly enforced. Paradegoers are asked to stay out of the street to help keep the parade moving.
There will be no bus service for the basketball awards ceremony in Allen Fieldhouse.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
