KU chancellor issues statement on death of journalism faculty member

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway issued the following statement on the death of Christy Bradford, a lecturer in the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Bradford died April 24 in Kansas City.

“On behalf of the entire university, I want to extend my condolences to Christy’s family and friends. Christy’s news expertise was a great benefit to the journalism school and its students, and she will be missed.”

Bradford joined the KU faculty in 1999, teaching reporting, editing and multimedia classes. She also was a mentor to the journalism school’s multicultural scholars. Before coming to KU, she was managing editor of the Detroit News, where she helped guide the staff to a Pulitzer Prize in 1994.

“This is a sad day,” said Ann Brill, dean of the journalism school. “Christy was a colleague and a friend. In addition to her dedication to teaching and her students, we will miss her.”

Services are pending. The journalism school is notifying Bradford’s students and is working to ensure her classes continue with little interruption.
