Media advisory: Satellite feed of KU work on ‘greenest’ building in Greensburg, Kan.

Attention TV news directors: Video of University of Kansas architecture students designing, building and relocating an Earth-friendly arts center for Greensburg, Kan., will be available via satellite feed on Wednesday, April 30. Students created the “greenest” building in Kansas for the tornado-damaged town using solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal heating, recycled materials and other sustainable systems.

B-roll video includes:

— Students in the classroom as they design the building collaboratively
— Students salvaging wood from abandoned structure for reuse
— Prefabrication work in a Lawrence warehouse
— Transportation by seven-truck convoy 325 miles to Greensburg
— Final assembly of the structure in Greensburg
— Time-lapse and sound bites also are included

Studio 804 will host an open house at the arts center — the first new public building in Greensburg — on Sunday, May 4, the one-year anniversary of the tornado. The building is expected to achieve LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the nation’s most rigorous benchmark for sustainable architecture.

The 7:30 minute video will be repeated twice in the 15-minute window. Here are the coordinates:
