School of Business announces updated details on lecture with chief justice

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Business will broadcast streaming live video from the 2008 Vickers Memorial Lecture featuring Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts Jr. at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in 120 Budig Hall. The free tickets for the event at the Lied Center were sold out one hour after they were made available to the public.

Guests attending the lecture at the Lied Center are encouraged to arrive by 5:45 p.m. and to leave all large bags or packages in their vehicles. All bags, containers and individuals are subject to search at the Lied Center.

Because of security requirements, tickets will expire at 5:45 p.m., but guests without tickets will not be able to sit in unclaimed seats. Any guest without a ticket to the lecture should go to the overflow room in Budig Hall.

The overflow viewing room in Budig Hall seats 999. Admission is free, and seats will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The KU campus opens to public traffic at 5 p.m. Visitors should check signs for special restrictions at lots before parking.

Kansas Public Radio will re-broadcast Roberts’ lecture in its entirety at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 18, on 91.5 FM. Video from the lecture also will be posted online after the event at the School of Business Web site.

The lecture is named for J.A. Vickers, a KU School of Business alumnus and founder of Vickers Petroleum Co., and his son, Robert. The lecture series was established in 1969 and has brought to KU such distinguished presenters as George H. W. Bush, Yitzhak Rabin, Donald Rumsfeld, Sandra Day O’Connor and Kenneth Starr.

The lecture will be part of a two-day trip to KU for Roberts, during which he will meet with School of Business and School of Law students and faculty. Both schools played a significant role in bringing Roberts to campus. Roberts will be the first chief justice to visit KU.
