Fans can take shuttle buses to fieldhouse; welcome-home details to be announced

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas is inviting fans to watch tonight’s NCAA championship game at Allen Fieldhouse. Free shuttle buses will run from the Park and Ride lot on Clinton Parkway to the fieldhouse starting at 7 p.m. Parking lots and the garage near the fieldhouse also will be open to the public.

The fieldhouse will open its doors at 7:30 for the 8:21 p.m. tip-off on CBS. KU’s pep band and mascots will be on hand and concessions will be available. Admission is free.

For tonight, parking on Jayhawk Boulevard and in the lots behind Strong and Bailey halls will be prohibited after 5:30 and any remaining vehicles will be towed. Classroom and administrative buildings along the boulevard in the campus’ central core will be locked by 7. All libraries, including the Wheat Law Library, will close at 10 p.m.

The time for the Kenneth A. Spencer Memorial Lecture to be given by Tim Flannery, titled “The Weather Makers: How We Are Changing The Climate and What It Means,” has been moved earlier to 6:30 p.m. in the Kansas Union Ballroom.

The university will welcome the team home from San Antonio with a public campus event Tuesday afternoon. The time, location and other details about Tuesday’s events on campus will be announced after tonight’s game on the Jayhawk Radio Network and the KU home page, www.ku.edu.
