University mourns Julian Limburg, assistant professor of chemistry

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Joseph Heppert, professor and chair of chemistry, issued the following statements on the death of Julian Limburg, an assistant professor of chemistry. He died Thursday at his home in Lawrence. Limburg joined the KU faculty in 2004 after earning his master’s and doctoral degrees at Yale University and serving as a visiting postdoctoral scholar at the University of California-Berkeley and the University of California-San Francisco. His research focused on bioinorganic chemistry and biochemistry.

Chancellor Hemenway:

“The university community today mourns the profound loss of a young and engaging scholar and educator. I offer our deepest condolences to Professor Limburg’s wife, family and friends.”

Professor Heppert:

“Professor Julian Limburg was an extremely creative, intelligent young scientist. The department will greatly miss his wit and his enthusiasm for research in the chemical sciences.”
