LAWRENCE — Jayhawks can get a first look at the University of Kansas’ 2008-09 television ad this evening at Traditions Night or by visiting KU’s new YouTube channel.

Featuring shots of students, faculty and activities, the 30-second advertisement, titled “A Great Place to Be a Champion,” promotes KU as a great place to be challenged and inspired — and to be a champion.

“There are so many ways to be a champion, in the classroom or the lab and of course walking down the hill at commencement,” said Marlesa Roney, vice provost for Student Success. “It’s a real challenge to tell the story of the University of Kansas in only 30 seconds, but we hope this will give viewers an idea of why KU is such a special place.”

The ad will air during selected Jayhawk football and basketball broadcasts, but it also will be available all the time at the YouTube Web site.

Also viewable on the KU channel are video features detailing some of the teaching, research and service projects that students, faculty and staff undertake as part of KU’s mission, as well as features about student life on Mount Oread.

Some of the videos currently available include a multipart feature on the construction of the 5.4.7 Arts Center in Greensburg by KU’s Studio 804; research into subjects ranging from biofuels to particle physics; and student activities in fine arts, athletics and debate.

YouTube is the leading online video community that allows people to discover, watch and share originally created videos. YouTube allows people to easily upload and share video clips on www.YouTube.com and across the Internet through Web sites, blogs and e-mail.
