Passes no longer required to ride KU buses

LAWRENCE — Riding KU on Wheels buses and the city’s T now will be easier for the KU community and Lawrence residents.

KU faculty, staff and students can now ride any KU on Wheels bus without a pass or paying a fare. All that is needed is a KU Card, and they will be required only at off-campus stops. KU Cards will be accepted on the T as well. Lawrence residents with a T pass or transfer slip will be able to ride KU on Wheels buses.

The changes come after students voted to eliminate passes and fares last spring.

After Oct. 1, riders will need a new KU Card to ride the T, and riders without the card, T pass or transfer slip will be required to pay $1 per ride. The card will not be required for KU on Wheels buses. In June, KU introduced a new student and employee ID card. The cards can be used for a number of purposes — such as utilizing KU Libraries services, purchasing tickets to university events and accessing KU meal plans — and function just like the old cards.

Faculty, staff and students who have older KU Cards can exchange them at the KU Card Center on the fourth floor of the Kansas Union. There is no charge if the old card is returned. If it is not returned, there is a replacement fee of $15. The KU Card Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

For bus routes, see the KU on Wheels Web site or the Lawrence Transit System Web site. For more information, e-mail kuwheels@mail.ku.edu.
