KU Libraries to host science fiction book sale

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Libraries will host a science fiction book sale from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, to Thursday, Sept. 11, on the third floor of Watson Library.

The sale features books that have been acquired by the collections efforts of James Gunn, professor emeritus of English and director of the Center for the Study of Science Fiction; the libraries’ duplicate holdings; and those that do not meet collection development guidelines.

About 4,000 books will be available for purchase, and the sale is open to the public Sept. 10 and 11. On Sept. 9, patrons must have a KU Card to purchase books. Hardcover books will be priced at $3 and paperback books will be $1. Payments can be made with cash or Master Card or Visa credit or debit cards. On the last day of the sale, bags of books will be sold for $5.

Proceeds from the sale will support processing and development of the science fiction collection at KU Libraries. Unsold books will be donated to a nonprofit organization dedicated to literacy programs.

For more information about the sale, contact KU Librarian Lea Currie at (785) 864-8997.
