KU names new vice provost for finance

LAWRENCE — Diane Hoose Goddard, a longtime financial specialist at the University of Kansas, has been named vice provost for finance on a permanent basis. The position is the university’s chief fiscal strategist.

Goddard was named interim vice provost for administration and finance in May, after William L. “Lindy” Eakin announced he would step down to teach full time in the Department of History.

As vice provost, Goddard will oversee operations of the Budget Office, Comptroller’s Office, Purchasing Office and the KU Card Center. She will report to Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Lariviere. Goddard will oversee financial reporting, preparation of the annual legislative budget request, the campus operating budget and assist the provost in budget allocation decisions.

Lariviere said Goddard is a fitting choice for the important position.

“Diane has proven in her many years of service at KU to be a careful steward of the university’s financial resources,” said Lariviere. “While serving as interim vice provost, she demonstrated sound fiscal leadership. I look forward to working with her in the challenging budget times that lie ahead.”

Goddard will represent KU’s Lawrence campus in matters of fiscal inquiries by the Kansas Board of Regents, State Budget Division and the Legislative Research Division. She will work directly with the Regents Council of Business Officers as well as ensure that Lawrence campus business operations comply with regents, state and federal regulations.

Associate vice provost for administration and finance since 2002, Goddard has served KU in a number of financial roles since 1984, when she joined the Kansas Geological Survey as assistant director for research administration. She was promoted to associate director of the survey in 1991 and was named associate comptroller in 1994. Goddard was appointed director of purchasing in 1995 and was acting budget director from 1997 to 1998, before being named comptroller and assistant to the associate provost.

Before coming to KU, Goddard was chief accountant/controller of Yale University Health Services and business manager of the Yale University Art Gallery. She holds a master’s of business administration from KU and a bachelor’s in economics from Southern Connecticut State University.
