KU plans recognition ceremonies for fall graduates, ROTC members
LAWRENCE — On average, more than 1,000 University of Kansas students complete degrees in the fall term. Many will be recognized in graduation ceremonies conducted by four of KU’s 12 schools and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Students graduating in the fall and summer 2008 terms are members of the Class of 2009 and may participate in the university’s formal commencement on May 17, 2009. KU holds only one formal commencement ceremony each year.
ROTC units commission graduating seniors as officers twice a year. The commissioning ceremonies are included below with the schools planning December graduate recognition ceremonies.
School of Business — 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, Lied Center
Reception in upper and lower gallery areas will follow recognition ceremony. About 230 students will graduate from the School of Business, and about 160 are expected to participate in the recognition ceremony.
School of Engineering — 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, Woodruff Auditorium, Kansas Union
A reception will follow in the ballroom. About 120 engineering students plan to graduate this fall.
William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications — 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, Woodruff Auditorium, Kansas Union
A reception will follow in the Big 12 Room. About 70 journalism students will graduate.
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences — 2 p.m. Dec. 14, Lied Center
A reception in the outer lobbies of the Lied Center will follow the recognition ceremony. About 1,050 graduates from the fall and summer terms will be recognized at the ceremony. About 275 graduating students are expected to attend.
School of Law (hooding ceremony) — 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, Woodruff Auditorium, Kansas Union
A reception will follow in the Big 12 Room for about 20 graduating students.
Two of KU’s ROTC units plan commissioning ceremonies for December graduates. The Army ROTC plans to commission four graduates at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, in the Military Science Building on campus; a fifth Army ROTC student and Baker University graduate will be commissioned in a ceremony Dec. 12 at Baker University in Baldwin City. At 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, Naval ROTC will commission one officer, also in the Military Science Building. Air Force ROTC will not be conducting a commissioning ceremony in December.
KU’s fall term concludes Friday, Dec. 19. The spring term will begin Jan. 15, 2009.
