Public invited to stop by interactive booth to learn about breast cancer risks
LAWRENCE — Student Health Services at the University of Kansas is sponsoring Kiosk for the Cure to raise breast cancer awareness among young women.
Kiosk for the Cure, co-sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, is an interactive booth run by health professionals and college students who will educate the public on breast cancer risks. Participants will answers questions on a computer and win prizes, including athletic socks and Beanie Babies with the breast cancer awareness pink ribbon.
“One in every 229 women between the ages of 30 and 39 will be diagnosed with breast cancer within the next 10 years,” said Heidi Garcia, wellness manager at Student Health Services. “Educating young women now on prevention is crucial.”
Kiosk for the Cure is free event and open to the public. It will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in the dining center at Gertrude Sellards Pearson Hall.
