LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas is among the top 10 most popular universities in the nation, according to a recent article in U.S. News and World Report.
The article, titled “The Student Choice Awards,” focused on the number of accepted students who ultimately enrolled, or the universities’ “yields.” KU was ranked No. 7 among public universities and No. 18 overall.
“The University of Kansas continues to see increases in freshmen applications,” said Lisa Pinamonti Kress, director of the Office of Admissions and Scholarships. “And with KU’s new Four-Year Tuition Compact, we expect our yield to go up as well.”
The Four-Year Tuition Compact offers first-time freshmen no tuition increases for four years — the time it takes to complete nearly all of KU’s bachelor’s degree programs. For more information, visit the tuition Web site.
U.S. News used fall 2006 data to determine the 100 national universities with the highest yields. That semester, KU had 10,240 applicants. KU accepted 7,874 students, and 4,153 chose to enroll. That gave KU a 53 percent yield.
Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., tied for the No. 1 spot, with 79 percent yields. In addition to KU, three other Big 12 schools made the top 20: the University of Nebraska, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
