KU chancellor issues statement on the death of Jim McLean
LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway issued the following statement regarding the death of Jim McLean, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine:
“The loss of a young and vibrant life is always tragic. With the death of Jim McLean, we also lose a talented physician, leader and role model for students and residents. I offer the deepest condolences to his family and colleagues on behalf of the entire university community.”
McLean also was to have led the Spine Center scheduled to open later this year at the University of Kansas Hospital. He was killed Jan. 20 in a snowboarding accident in Breckenridge, Colo. Funeral arrangements have been scheduled in McLean's hometown in New Jersey, and a memorial for friends and colleagues will be at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Lied Auditorium on the University of Kansas Medical School campus. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to KU Endowment to benefit the KU Spine Center in memory of McLean. Donations can be made securely online at kuendowment.org, or mailed to KU Endowment, P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044.
