University Career Center, Office of Multicultural Affairs to host career fair

LAWRENCE — Students seeking career opportunities and employers searching for talented candidates will find common ground at the 2008 Office of Multicultural Affairs and University Career Center Career Fair.

The two-day event will take place from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12 and 13 in the Kansas Union. A reception for students, faulty, administrators and employers will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Traditions Area in the Kansas Union.

More than 150 employers and recruiters attended the 2007 career fair.

“It’s a great way for a lot of students and a lot of recruiters to meet and to learn about each other in a short period of time,” said David Gaston, director of the University Career Center. “Employers can get the word out about the opportunities they offer and students can learn about those jobs and about the corporate cultures of a wide variety of organizations.”

Employers register for the career fair through the University Career Center Web site, www.ucc.ku.edu. A list of employers who will participate in the fair is also available. Students do not need to pre-register. All KU students are invited to attend. In addition to full-time career opportunities, some employers offer internships or summer employment and there will be a group of summer camp recruiters present.

The University Career Center will assist students preparing for the career fair through workshops and a resume review day Feb. 8 at its offices, 110 Burge Union. Information about dressing for success and making effective use of time at the career fair are also at the career center’s Web site.
