KU chancellor to address Manhattan Rotary Club

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway will speak to the Manhattan Rotary Club at noon Thursday, July 24, at Holiday Inn, 1641 Anderson Ave. A KU Alumni Association reception will follow at 1:30 p.m.

Hemenway will discuss KU’s work on behalf of the people of Kansas and its economic impact on the state. He’ll also discuss KU’s role in the Midwest Cancer Alliance Partners Advisory Board. Kansas State University also is a member of the board, which was created as a way for all of the important health care and life science institutions throughout the state and region to have a “seat at the table” in the effort to bring National Cancer Institute designation for a comprehensive cancer center to the KU Medical Center.

“Part of our effort to earn an NCI designation for the cancer center involves creating a collaborative model of health care providers and researchers to work together to help bring the advanced treatments that come with achieving this designation, to patients throughout Kansas,” Hemenway said. “We’re happy to have Kansas State University be an important part of that effort.”
