KU history department announces 11 new Phi Alpha Theta honor society members

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas chapter of Phi Alpha Theta national history honor society recognized 11 student initiates at a spring-semester reception at the Kansas Union.

Students were invited to join Phi Alpha Theta if they had completed a minimum of 12 credit hours in history courses with a grade-point average of at least 3.1 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. They do not have to be history majors to be eligible for membership.

Phi Alpha Theta promotes the study of history by encouraging research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. The chapters offer members opportunities to present historical research at conventions and professional conferences.

Carolyn Nelson, assistant professor of history, is faculty adviser to KU’s Alpha Omicron chapter of Phi Alpha Theta.
