KU Alumni Association welcomes new students to picnic in Fort Scott

LAWRENCE – New University of Kansas students and their parents from Allen, Bourbon and Woodson counties will be welcomed into the KU family at the Jayhawk Generations Welcome Picnic at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, in Fort Scott.

The KU Alumni Association and the Southeast chapter will greet the next generation of Jayhawks at a picnic in their honor at Gunn Park, 1010 Park Ave., Fort Scott. Area alumni, new students, students interested in learning more about KU and their parents are invited to attend and enjoy complimentary food and beverages. Each new Jayhawk will also receive a free T-shirt.

Gary and Sally Cullor and Rick Werling, all of Fort Scott and all chapter steering committee leaders, and Alumni Association representatives, Sarah Blaney, assistant director for Kansas programs; Jamie Winkelman, assistant director for alumni programs and Megan Hill, coordinator for alumni programs, are coordinating the event. Association staff will arrive with the signature KU trailer full of grills, burgers and brats for the festivities. Current KU students, alumni and University representatives will mix and mingle with students to answer questions and offer advice.
