Kansas Public Radio, Lied Center partner for broadcasts

LAWRENCE — If you weren’t lucky enough to be in the audience for performances of the Ahn Trio or the Claremont Trio at the University of Kansas’ Lied Center, you’ve got a second chance to hear them.

Kansas Public Radio and the Lied Center are presenting recorded concerts of several performances. The series kicks off at 7:04 p.m. Thursday, March 6, with the Ahn Trio. The sisters – Maria (cello), Lucia (piano) and Angella (violin) – were born in Seoul, South Korea, and trained at Juilliard.

“We’re delighted to have KPR broadcasting Lied Center concerts,” said Tim Van Leer, executive director of the Lied Center. “It’s wonderful that KPR can record such high-caliber performances. We are able to have a permanent record of the artists’ fantastic work, and it’s a great opportunity to hear the outstanding concerts we have as part of our series here at the Lied.”

The next concert broadcast will be the Claremont Trio at 7:04 p.m. Wednesday, April 9. KPR also will present concerts by the Chiara String Quartet, the Takács Quartet and the Aspen Ensemble. Broadcast times for those shows have not yet been set.

“This is a great fit for KPR,” said Darrell Brogdon, program director of KPR. “These performers are among the best in the business. We play their CDs as part of our regular programming. Now to have them play live on campus truly adds depth to our classical music library.”

KPR, licensed to KU, broadcasts on KANU 91.5 FM in Lawrence, KANH 89.7 FM in Emporia, KANV 91.3 FM in Olsburg-Junction City and K210CR 89.9 FM in Atchison. KPR can be heard on the Internet. KPR also operates KPR-2, a news-talk channel on HD Radio. Those broadcasts can be heard on a high-definition receiver or on KPR’s Web site.
