More KU graduate programs join U.S News national rankings

LAWRENCE — Two more graduate programs at the University of Kansas have joined U.S News and World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools” rankings. Overall, KU has 44 nationally ranked academic programs, 31 of which are ranked among the nation’s top 30 public schools.

KU’s public financing and budgeting program is ranked ninth, and the School of Medicine’s rural medicine program is 14th for public schools.

“We consider the health needs of rural Kansas to be among our highest priorities,” said Barbara Atkinson, executive vice chancellor of the KU Medical Center and executive dean of the School of Medicine. “The high ranking our school has earned in this field reflects our strong commitment and concern for the rural residents of our state.”

Previously it was announced that seven KU graduate programs moved up the national rankings ladder while an eighth — already at No. 1 — held onto its top spot in the U.S. News rankings. Last year, five KU programs saw their rankings rise.

KU’s special education program this year joined city management and urban policy at the No. 1 spot for public and private schools.

U.S. News released the complete list of graduate program rankings recently. Only selected academic disciplines are ranked annually.
