Office of Multicultural Affairs to host 32nd annual graduation banquet

LAWRENCE — The Office of Multicultural Affairs will host its 32nd annual graduation banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Kansas Room in the Kansas Union. This year’s banquet will reflect multiculturalism through the celebration of culture and academic success.

The theme of this year’s banquet is a quote from poet Maya Angelou, “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.”

Keynote speaker will be Paul Buskirk, a KU alumnus who has been a member of KU’s athletics department staff since 1987. Buskirk supervises the Student Athlete Support Services unit, which encompasses three programs: degree and career counseling, strategic tutoring and life skills education. These programs provide broad resources to support student-athletes in their academic, personal and career pursuits.

Buskirk graduated from KU with a bachelor’s in psychology in 1983 and a master’s in education in 1989.

Graduates will be honored guests but are asked to RSVP. Tickets for the public are $15 and are available at the Office of Multicultural Affairs or by calling (785) 864-4351. Tickets will also be sold on site for $20.
