Hall Center announces new associate director
LAWRENCE — Kristine Latta has been named associate director of the Hall Center for the Humanities at the University of Kansas. Latta is completing her doctoral dissertation at Princeton University and will join KU in July.
As associate director, Latta will share responsibility for program development, fundraising, public relations and the daily operations of the Hall Center.
“I was so impressed with all that the center’s staff and supporters have accomplished,” said Latta. “As an academic with a deep appreciation of the work of university and nonprofit institutions, this position was just the kind of opportunity I was searching for. I very much look forward to becoming part of the Hall Center, KU and Lawrence communities."
Latta earned a master’s degree in cultural anthropology from Princeton University in 2002. Her bachelor’s degree in anthropology is from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She also has specialized training in management for the nonprofit sector from Indiana University-Purdue University, fundraising from the Association of Fundraising Professionals and grant development from the Grantsmanship Center.
“Kristine Latta has an ideal blend of academic and administrative training and experience,” said Victor Bailey, director of the Hall Center. “She is dedicated to fostering humanities scholarship, interdisciplinary dialogue and public programs.”
Latta’s publications include journal articles on subjects ranging from Amish culture to Ecuadorian merchants, all in the field of cultural anthropology. She is fluent in Spanish.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
