Professors to discuss how other nations view U.S. presidential election

LAWRENCE — Americans are not the only ones concerned about who will be their next president.

Two international experts will discuss how the rest of the world is viewing the presidential election at “U.S. Elections 2008: The World is Watching.” The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Dole Institute of Politics.

Diana Carlin, professor of communication studies, and Burdett Loomis, professor of political science, have recently made trips to Germany, Belarus, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina and China on behalf of the U.S. State Department to present information on American politics and elections. They will share their experiences at the event sponsored by the Dole Institute of Politics and International Programs.

Three Fulbright Scholars in journalism — Soleak Seang, Cambodia; Rauf Arif, Pakistan; Uyanga Bazaa, Mongolia — and International Ford Foundation Fellow Denzyl Janneker, South Africa, will also offer brief reflections of the U.S. elections in their respective countries.
