Law school praised for research resources, clinical opportunities, collegial atmosphere
LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Law is one of the best in the nation, according to the Princeton Review.
The school is featured in the 2009 edition of the education services company’s “Best 174 Law Schools.” The guide includes information about KU’s academic offerings, student life, admissions, selectivity and career placement services, along with candid comments from students enrolled at the school.
The “extremely affordable” school “produces good attorneys and loyal alumni,” reports the Princeton Review.
Among the law school’s strengths, according to its students, are classroom environments that accept diverse opinions; great research resources and library staff; abundant internship, externship and clerkship opportunities; and sharp, funny, highly qualified professors.
“The faculty seems genuinely interested in seeing the students happy and successful at the end of the day,” a student explained.
Students also lauded the school’s Office of Career Services for doing an excellent job of “bringing in potential employers from all over the country for on-campus interviews” and the school’s Summer Start program, which allows first-year students to enroll in courses during the summer before the traditional first semester begins.
In addition, the School of Law was praised for its collegial and laid-back atmosphere. Members of ethnic minorities said they felt quite at home in Green Hall. “Everyone knows me and treats me with respect,” one minority student said.
The Princeton Review selected the top schools based on surveys of 18,000 law students and school-reported data.
KU offers law degrees with optional certificate programs in elder law; environmental and natural resources law; international trade and finance; media law and policy; tax law; and tribal law. Joint degree programs are available in business, East Asian languages and cultures, economics, global indigenous nations studies, health services administration, journalism, philosophy, public administration, social welfare and urban planning.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
