Lending expert to speak at KU about the future of housing finance
Andrew J. Jetter
LAWRENCE — The mortgage crisis and federal bailout of lenders leaves many questions about the country’s financial future. Andrew J. Jetter, president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, will address this crucial topic during a lecture for the University of Kansas School of Business.
The 2008 Anderson Chandler Lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Lied Center.
Jetter’s lecture, titled “Looking Ahead: The Future of Housing Finance in America,” will address the structure and regulation of housing finance and changes that may occur to keep the system alive. The free lecture is open to the public, and tickets are not required. In addition to the lecture, Jetter will also make a presentation to a graduate-level accounting class.
Employed by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka for more than 20 years, Jetter has been general counsel, senior vice president, executive vice president and chief operating officer before his appointment as president and CEO in 2002.
Under Jetter’s leadership, the bank has experienced sustained success with a long history of strong asset and earnings growth. The Topeka branch is consistently in the top tier of the 12 Federal Home Loan Banks in terms of profitability, expense management and dividends. In the last five years, assets have grown more than 50 percent and retained earnings have grown more than 400 percent.
Jetter will be the 12th speaker in the Chandler lecture series, which began in 1997. The lecture series is made possible by Anderson Chandler, an alumnus of the School of Business. Chandler is CEO, president and director of Fidelity State Bank and Trust Co. of Topeka and vice president and director of First Bank of Newton. Chandler is on the School of Business Board of Advisors and supports other initiatives throughout KU and the School of Business.
Previous Chandler lecturers include Sheila Bair, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; Alan Mulally, CEO of Ford Motor Co.; Matthew Rose, CEO of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp.; Michael Powell, former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission; and syndicated columnists David Broder and Robert Novak.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
