University mourns housing employee Allen Eastland

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Director of the Department of Student Housing Diana Robertson issued the following statements today regarding the death of KU employee Allen Eastland:

Hemenway: “On behalf of the entire KU community, I offer the deepest condolences to the family and friends of Allen Eastland. Our thoughts are with them at this sad time.”

Robertson: “Allen will be deeply missed by all of us in student housing. He was a dedicated employee and will be remembered for his great sense of humor and for the way in which he’d bring a smile to the face of those around him. He didn’t know a stranger. He liked to joke and tease and had a great zest for life. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.”

Eastland died Oct. 25 in a car accident on Kansas Highway 10. He was an electrician in the Department of Student Housing and had worked for housing for 10 years. Before that he worked for Facilities Operations for five years.
