Tickets to see former President Bush at KU to be available Nov. 3

LAWRENCE — Free reserved tickets to see former  President George H. W. Bush accept the 2008 Dole Leadership Prize next month  will be made available Monday, Nov. 3 to the public and University of Kansas  students.

Bush will accept the prize, awarded annually by the Robert J.  Dole Institute of Politics at KU, and speak at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16, at the  Lied Center on KU’s West Campus.

Starting at 11a.m., the general public  may pick up or reserve tickets at the Lied Center box office either in person  or by calling (785) 864-ARTS (2787). Students  may pick up tickets at  Student Union Activities box office in the Kansas Union or the box office at  Murphy Hall. They must present a valid KU student ID. There is a four per-person ticket limit.

Student tickets  not distributed by 6 pm, Nov. 7, will be made available to the general  public at 11 a.m., Nov. 10 at the Lied Center box office.

The Dole  Institute of Politics is a bipartisan institute dedicated to promoting public  service, civic engagement and politics. It is located on KU’s west campus next  to the Lied Center.

Previous recipients of the Dole Prize include  legendary civil rights activist and U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga.; former U.S.  Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker, R- Tenn.; former Republican presidential candidate and New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former South Dakota senator and 1972  Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern, and Nobel Peace Prize winner and first democratically elected president of Poland Lech Walesa.  

Bush, the nation’s 41st president who served from 1989 to 1993, is the third former president to visit the Dole Institute, said  Bill Lacy, director of the institute. President Bill Clinton delivered the inaugural Robert J. Dole Lecture in 2004 and former President Jimmy Carter attended the institute’s dedication in 2003. Bush last spoke at KU in 1976 when he was CIA director and gave a Vickers Lecture at the School of Business.
