High school counselors rank KU among top universities
LAWRENCE — Ask counselors at the best high schools in the country about premier colleges and the University of Kansas is near the top on their lists, according to a new survey.
KU ranks 12th in the nation among public universities in the U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Colleges: High School Counselor Rankings of National Universities.” Counselors from high schools on U.S. News’ Best High Schools list were asked to rank colleges and universities based on a survey of academic reputation.
“KU deserves all of the kudos and high marks it is receiving. There are so many strong programs along with a phenomenal campus life for the students,” said Marybeth Kravets, a college counselor at Deerfield High School in Deerfield, Ill., outside Chicago. Deerfield ranked among the best high schools on the U.S. News list.
KU admissions counselors noted that high school counselors frequently express a strong admiration of the university and what it offers students.
“High school counselors show a lot of support for the challenging academics and the wide variety of programs their students can choose to be a part of,” said Elisa Krapcha, senior admissions counselor in the Office of Admissions and Scholarships. “Both Kansas and out-of-state counselors see the university as very affordable for the power of the KU degree.”
A leading research university, KU has more than 40 nationally ranked academic programs and offers nearly 200 fields of study. In addition, KU’s unprecedented tuition compact promises first-time freshmen a four-year fixed tuition rate so KU students and their families can determine the tuition and fee costs of an entire bachelor’s degree up front.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
