German academic agency names KU senior as DAAD Young Ambassador
LAWRENCE – The German Academic Exchange Service or Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst has named a University of Kansas senior as one of 25 university students in the U.S. and Canada to serve as a DAAD Young Ambassador for the 2008-09 academic year.
Andreas Teschner Graf, majoring in Germanic languages and literatures and political science with a co-major in European studies at KU, recently attended a three-day seminar for the 2008 DAAD Young Ambassadors in New York City. Young Ambassadors promote study in Germany at their home universities and colleges. The seminar addressed intercultural communications, presentation skills and marketing.
In 2007, Graf studied in Germany at the University of Bonn with a DAAD scholarship for undergraduates. He is the son of William Graf and Sabina Teschner of Mission Woods and is a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School.
DAAD is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation that offers programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers and others in higher education providing financial support to over 50,000 individuals per year.
DAAD New York maintains three major missions: to act as a bridge between U.S., Canadian and German universities, higher education professionals and students by providing information and assistance; to administer fellowships and other programs for students and scholars in the U.S. and Canada; and to contribute to Germany’s public diplomacy by promoting Germany’s academic, scientific, and cultural achievements in the U.S. and Canada.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
