Charity golf tournament will benefit speech clinic at KU
LAWRENCE — The Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic at the University of Kansas and the Topeka Scottish Rite have teamed up to host a charity golf tournament. All proceeds will go to the clinic.
The tournament will be held Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Western Hills Golf Course, 8533 SW 21st St. in Topeka. The day will begin with lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the golf club. The two-person scramble tournament begins at 12:30 p.m. A silent auction and social hour will start at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Aboud’s, a banquet hall at the golf club.
The tournament is open to the public. Cost is $80 per person. Cost for dinner and auction only is $18 per person.
The Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic provides high-quality, comprehensive services to individuals of all ages who have communication challenges and provides professional training for KU students in speech-language pathology and audiology. Services offered by students and faculty at the clinic include speech-language assessments, speech-language intervention, support groups, augmentative and alternative communication resource center, cleft palate resource center, ALS support and device loan bank, Sertoma-Schiefelbusch Summer Communication Camp, hearing evaluations, hearing aid fittings/repair/modifications and a hearing conservation program.
“We are most appreciative of all the support the Scottish Rite Foundation has given our clinic so that we can provide scholarships to children in need,” said Jane Wegener, director of the clinic. “We are also most grateful to the Topeka Scottish Rite for their additional support with money generated from the golf tournament. This additional support enables us to provide additional services and to provide for our students the most up-to-date materials and equipment.”
