Kansas Editors Day to feature panel of political experts

LAWRENCE — The William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications and Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas will host this year’s Kansas Editors Day program, titled “Post Conventions: What’s Next in Election 2008?”

The program begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Alderson Auditorium in the Kansas Union. Kansas Editors Day is an annual event for editors and publishers but is free and open to the public.

“This is an exciting and unique election,” said Ann Brill, dean of the school of journalism. “The candidates, the media and the public are making decisions that make the 2008 presidential campaign one of the most compelling stories of our time. We expect this panel of experts to help us understand some of the undercurrents of this year as well as offer some thoughts on where the campaign is headed next.”

Program panelists are: Bill Lacy, director of the Dole Institute and former campaign manager for Fred Thompson’s presidential campaign; Walter Shapiro, Washington bureau chief for Salon.com; and Raymond D. Strother, author, political consultant and television political commentator. David Guth, associate dean of the journalism school, will moderate the panel.

“Editors Day is one of many outstanding programs run by the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications,” said Lacy. “We are happy to be a co-sponsor in this crucial election year.”
