KU celebrates its birthday with cake, card on Wescoe Beach

WHAT: To commemorate the anniversary of first day of classes at the University of Kansas, which were held Sept. 12, 1866, students and faculty will have the opportunity to sign an oversized birthday card dedicated to the university and enjoy free birthday cake. The annual event, called Celebrate KU, is sponsored by the Student Alumni Association.

WHEN: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12

WHERE: Wescoe Beach on the Lawrence campus

WHY: “Important occasions for the university, like KU’s birthday, often go by completely unnoticed. ‘Celebrate KU’ is an exciting opportunity for students and faculty to recognize the numerous reasons why we love KU,” said Megan Lemon, director of outreach for the Student Alumni Association.

The Student Alumni Association is a registered student organization that assists the KU Alumni Association with events and activities; it is designed to educate and involve students with the alumni association.
