LAWRENCE — Strong academics, bountiful campus life and a diverse student body earned the University of Kansas a spot in the Princeton Review’s latest "Best 371 Colleges" rankings for students and parents. Only 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges are profiled in the guide book.

“Students stress that KU provides ‘the full college experience through many amazing research opportunities, supportive faculty and strong academics, as well as a great social scene,’” according to the guide, which includes information on academics, tuition, enrollment, financial aid and student life to assist students in selecting a college.

In a two-page profile of KU, publishers featured information gathered from surveys of students, who hailed KU’s diverse student body and the ample social opportunities for students. KU also received high marks in academics along with its financial aid and environmental efforts.

“Going to (basketball) games is great,” one student said about campus life. “I’ve never experienced anything like it. I love sitting in the student section. The energy radiating off of everyone is amazing. Camping out in line on the day of basketball games will be one of my greatest memories.”

Earlier this year Princeton Review named KU among its “100 Best Value Colleges 2009,” which includes 50 public and 50 private institutions. It touted KU’s excellence in a variety of fields of study, including business, communication studies, education, engineering, journalism, music, nursing, premedical sciences and the social sciences.
