LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas will honor 392 student athletes named to the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll for 2008 during halftime of the KU-Iowa State men’s basketball game Feb. 18 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Student athletes who achieved a grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the spring or fall 2008 semester are eligible for the honor. During the spring semester, 247 qualified and in the fall, 283.

Among those scheduled for special recognition at the game will be students who earned 4.0 GPAs in one or both semesters, including 52 during the spring semester and 40 in the fall semester. Nineteen student athletes had 4.0 averages both semesters and 138 had 3.0 or above grade-point averages both semesters.

The Athletics Director’s Honor Roll recognizes students in intercollegiate baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, football, golf, rowing, softball, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Spirit Squad members also are included.

“We are tremendously pleased and proud of the effort these young men and women have invested in their academic responsibilities,” said Athletics Director Lew Perkins. “It’s easy to take for granted the discipline and commitment it takes to excel both in athletic competition and in the classroom. We extend our congratulations to these student-athletes, our terrific KU faculty and to our outstanding athletics academic support staff.”

Honorees represent 40 Kansas counties, 31 other states and 13 other countries. They are listed by home county, state or country; sport; semester of recognition and GPA; major; student status and level in school or degree completed in 2008; and, when available, parents’ names and previous schools attended. Students who qualified both semesters are listed twice.
