LAWRENCE — More than 40 students in 25 disciplines at the University of Kansas recently completed the Global Awareness Program.

The program recognizes students for studying abroad, taking courses with an international focus (or foreign language courses) and being significantly involved in international co-curricular activities. To receive certification, students are required to complete two of three requirements. All undergraduates are eligible to participate. Students are encouraged to complete all three tracks, which 10 of the 43 students did this semester.

“By enhancing their education with a significant global dimension, these students have achieved a special accomplishment that will serve them well in an increasingly interconnected world,” said Jenna Hunter, program coordinator.

Launched by International Programs in fall 2004, the Global Awareness Program has recognized more than 700 students in the last four years. Students earn certification on their KU transcripts and are honored at a luncheon in the spring. More than 850 students are currently participating.
