School of Pharmacy career fair to draw 42 employer representatives

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy will conduct its annual Senior Pharmacy Student Career Placement Day and Undergraduate Pharmacy Student Career Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Lawrence Holiday Inn Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.

Approximately 80 spring 2009 doctor of pharmacy degree candidates and 100 undergraduate pharmacy students will participate in the event.

Forty-two employer representatives will interview and recruit senior pharmacy students for full-time jobs and postgraduate residency positions. Undergraduate pharmacy students will be recruited for summer internship positions.

The event will feature employers representing a broad scope of career pathways, including retail chain and independent pharmacy; hospital pharmacy practice; nuclear pharmacy; the pharmaceutical industry; specialty pharmacy practice areas such as long-term care pharmacy and compounding pharmacy; and postgraduate residency training opportunities in retail and hospital pharmacy practice and pharmacy practice management. Employers are recruiting for positions in Kansas and nationwide.

The School of Pharmacy provides guidance to students in the position-search and interview processes, creation of resume and related career search documents and enhancement of skills essential for participation in a successful interview process.

The annual career fair is coordinated through the dean’s office of the School of Pharmacy. Associate Dean Gene Hotchkiss acts as the school’s career placement coordinator and is responsible for planning the event.
