KU art, design students honored with awards, scholarships

LAWRENCE — More than 50 students and recent graduates studying art and design at the University of Kansas have been recognized with more than $180,000 in scholarships and awards.

KU’s fine arts programs were reorganized effective July 1. A School of Music was formed, and a School of the Arts was created within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The School of the Arts now houses the departments of visual art, dance, theatre and film and media studies. Some design programs joined the Department of Visual Art; others were moved to the School of Architecture, Design and Planning.

For more information about the reorganization, go to www.news.ku.edu/2008/october/14/finearts.shtml.

Funds for most of the awards and scholarships are managed by KU Endowment, the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management organization for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment is the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university.

Students who received scholarships and/or awards are listed below by hometown, parents’ names, major or degree received, high school attended or previous degrees received from other universities and award or scholarship. Students receiving more than one award or scholarship are listed multiple times.

The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
