More than 255 KU students earn Global Awareness Program certification

More Information

LAWRENCE — More than 255 students from 50 departments completed the Global Awareness Program this spring at the University of Kansas.

GAP recognizes students for studying abroad, taking courses with an international focus, including foreign languages, and being involved in international activities. All undergraduates are eligible to participate. To receive GAP certification, students are required to complete two of the three requirements. Students are encouraged to complete all three tracks, which 17 of the 260 students did this semester.

“Students who complete the Global Awareness Program demonstrate not only a desire to comprehend the complexities of living in a global community, but also a commitment to international learning that extends beyond the boundaries of the classroom,” said Jenna Hunter, GAP coordinator. “KU offers students the unique chance to be recognized for their efforts to develop a global perspective.”

Launched by International Programs in fall 2004, GAP has recognized more than 940 students in the last four years. Students earn certification on their KU transcript and are also honored at a luncheon in the spring. More than 900 students are participating and working toward certification.

GAP is one of three engaged learning certificate programs at KU: global awareness, research experience and service learning. All three programs enable undergraduate students to earn transcript certification for active learning experiences.
