KU chancellor issues statement on provost’s selection by University of Oregon

UPDATE 3/13/09: Richard Lariviere was appointed by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education this morning as the new president of the University of Oregon.

LAWRENCE – University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway today released the following statement:

“The Oregon University System chancellor announced today that University of Kansas Provost Richard Lariviere is the choice for the position of president of the University of Oregon. I want to congratulate Richard. Like KU, Oregon is one of 34 public members of the Association of American Universities, and it is an outstanding institution.

"Richard has accomplished a great deal during his tenure as provost. I have spoken with Richard, and we will ensure that responsibilities of the provost office will proceed in regular fashion as we transition to new leadership.

"Richard’s accomplishments for KU have been many. He has also been an esteemed colleague to administrators, faculty and staff, and a valued adviser to students.

"One of the Lariviere legacies at KU will include Jan Lariviere’s work to help create our UKanTeach program, a successful collaboration between the School of Education and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to help address the shortage of math and science teachers.

We wish Jan and Richard the very best.”
