KU agreement with Dell to maximize computer investments
LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas has entered into an agreement with Dell that will enhance KU’s annual investment in computers and related hardware through additional pricing discounts based on volume purchasing.
“This agreement illustrates KU’s commitment to providing responsible financial stewardship of the state’s resources,” said Richard Lariviere, provost and executive vice chancellor. “Investment in information technology is critical to our ability to fulfill our teaching, research and service mission. This is a step toward ensuring that all members of the KU community have the technology tools available to accomplish their best work.”
Products within the scope of the agreement include laptop computers, personal computers, workstations, servers and printers.
“Based on KU’s computer purchases over the past five years, we anticipate that the university can save more than $300,000 annually under the terms of this agreement,” said Denise Stephens, vice provost for information services and chief information officer. “This agreement is an outcome of Initiative One, the university’s strategy for maximizing the information infrastructure that students, faculty and staff rely on to communicate and share information, whether just across campus, or with colleagues around the world.”
The savings generated through the new contract will enable KU to more quickly and efficiently replace aging computers in student labs and faculty and staff offices. Last year, KU purchased more than 2,500 computers and servers from Dell.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
