C-SPAN3 to air Dole Institute interviews with Bob Dole, Walter Mondale
LAWRENCE — C-SPAN3 is building an eight-program series from a collection of interviews from the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas. The first two programs will air Nov. 21-23. The interviews feature noted historian Richard Norton Smith with former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole and Vice President Walter Mondale.
Part of a 72-interview project titled “The Legacy of Bob Dole’s Leadership,” the first interview with Dole will air at 2:50 and 8:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, and at 2:50 and 8:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22. The interview with Mondale will air at 3 and 9 p.m. Nov. 22 and 3 and 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23.
The Dole Institute’s oral history project began in 2006 and collected interviews with American politicians and political aides who shaped the landscape of Dole’s career. The interviews are just part of the many historical resources found within the Dole Institute Archive and Special Collections.
The broadcast this weekend marks the beginning a series of oral history interviews from the Dole Institute on C-SPAN3. In the coming weeks, the cable network will feature other interviews, including those with former Sen. Howard Baker, R-Tenn., and former California Gov. Pete Wilson.
An oral history is a way to record and preserve information using a question and answer format. Usually conducted in a person’s home or office, these interviews record stories, remembrances and anecdotes that are often unavailable anywhere else.
C-SPAN3 can be seen on channel 94 on Sunflower Broadband in Lawrence.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
