University mourns longtime economics professor Harry Shaffer
LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and Joseph Sicilian, chair of the Department of Economics, released the following statements today regarding the death of Harry Shaffer, a longtime KU economics professor who retired in January.
Gray-Little: “Harry Shaffer touched many lives and educated generations of Jayhawks. On behalf of the entire KU community, I offer deepest condolences to his family, friends and former students and colleagues.”
Sicilian: “Harry’s love of teaching and love of students was displayed consistently over a remarkable KU career of more than 50 years.”
Shaffer, 90, had taught at KU since 1956. He earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from New York University.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St. Burial will follow at B’nei Israel Cemetery in Eudora.
