KU, K-State cheerleaders team up for women's health

LAWRENCE — Cheerleaders from the University of Kansas and Kansas State University are teaming up for the first time in recent history to host a cheer clinic in southwest Kansas for girls in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The clinic will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 31, at South Central Elementary School in Protection.

The girls will be divided into groups by age and taught a cheer, a dance and some simple stunting techniques. In addition, they’ll have the option to purchase photos with their favorite cheerleaders for a small fee.

All the money raised goes to the WEPAC Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women in Wilmore, Englewood, Protection, Ashland and Coldwater take responsibility for their health. It combines the resources of Ashland Health Center and Comanche County Hospital to meet the collective health care needs of the women in their hospital districts.

Each clinic participant will receive a free T-shirt with their registration. The cost to register is $30. Any child from the five WEPAC towns may register for $15. For registration information, e-mail Staci Sherer at wepaccheer@yahoo.com.

The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
