KU to hold one H1N1 vaccine clinic for students only because of supply shortage

More Information

LAWRENCE — A shortage of vaccine doses has forced the University of Kansas to cancel all but one of its planned H1N1 influenza vaccine clinics. The remaining scheduled clinic will be restricted to current KU students.

KU will offer 500 doses of the vaccine between noon and 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center. The H1N1 vaccination is free. Most vaccines given will be nasal mists.

To be eligible, students must show their KU Cards and be:

— 24 years of age or younger
— 25 years of age and older with certain medical conditions, such as asthma and diabetes, that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications

KU recommends pregnant students see their obstetricians for the flu vaccine.

Before coming to the clinic, students are advised to download and complete a vaccine consent form at www.studenthealth.ku.edu

KU will provide additional clinics on campus if and when a sufficient amount of vaccine is received.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will offer an H1N1 vaccine clinic from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at the county fairgrounds, Building 21, 2120 Harper St. The vaccine will be made available only to people 6 months through 18 years of age; daily care providers of and household members who live with children younger than 6 months of age; all pregnant women; and health care and emergency services personnel with direct patient contact. The county has canceled two other planned clinics because of the vaccine shortage.

Seasonal flu clinic at KU Hospital
The KU Hospital’s annual, free “Drive-Thru Flu Shot” event is from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. (or while supplies last.) Saturday, Oct. 31, in Kansas City, Kan. This is the seasonal vaccine; there is no H1N1 vaccine at this clinic. This year's event begins at Adams Street and Rainbow Boulevard. Shots are available to anyone 18 and older. To support Harvesters, the Community Food Network, attendees can donate non-perishable food items, paper products or a monetary gift.
