KU is a cool school, according to new ranking

LAWRENCE — ’Tis the season for college rankings, and the University of Kansas has garnered a fresh one from a new source — Mother Jones magazine.

The “MoJo Mini College Guide” includes KU among “10 cool schools that will blow your mind, not your budget.” Touting KU as the best value for “heartland hellraisers,” the article also praised the university for its large distribution of student aid. In 2007-08, KU students on the Lawrence campus received more than $181 million in financial aid from private and public funds.

The magazine’s Web site lists some criteria for inclusion in the guide: lower-than-average tuition, generous financial aid policies and innovative work-study programs.

Mother Jones is a nonprofit news organization that specializes in investigative, political and social justice reporting.

The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
