KU scientists host 'Family Feud' style trivia contest
LAWRENCE — If you would guess that Albert Einstein is considered one of the most important scientists of all time, mark your calendar for Sept. 27.
That Sunday, University of Kansas faculty will host “Science Feud,” a “Family Feud” style trivia contest that will challenge teams to name top discoveries and contributors to science. Science enthusiasts, trivia buffs, students and eager learners of all ages are invited to attend the free event at 2 p.m. at West Junior High School, 2700 Harvard Road.
The contest is part of an effort to raise science awareness in the Year of Science. The Coalition on the Public Understanding of Science established the Year of Science to promote how science works, who scientists are and why science matters.
Eight randomly selected teams will face off in four rounds. Teams will earn points for correctly guessing answers for that round’s survey question. The survey results are based on the responses of 132 scientists from around Kansas.
After each round, KU scientists will review the survey results and discuss what choices they would have made to enhance the public’s understanding about science. All teams will earn prizes for participating.
“Science Feud” is free and open to the public. Attendees should park in the lot on the north side of the school and enter the northeast doors to proceed to the auditorium. For more information, contact Jessica Beeson at eliasb@ku.edu or visit www.clas.ku.edu.
This is the first of four CLAS ACTS events this academic year. Upcoming events include a flamenco dance presentation and workshop Nov. 1 at the Lawrence Arts Center; an international trivia competition Feb. 7 at Liberty Hall; and a performance and exploration of African-American music and writing in late spring.
CLAS ACTS is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The goal of the series is to share the diverse wealth of the College faculty’s knowledge with the community in a manner that educates, entertains and engages the audience.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
