LAWRENCE — Fall enrollment at the University of Kansas exceeded 30,000 students for the second year in a row, according to data released today.

ACT scores for the incoming freshman class averaged 24.7, the second highest score for an incoming class at KU. The highest average composite score was 24.8 in 2008. Notably, five new KU students — four from Kansas and one from Missouri — earned perfect scores on the ACT or SAT.

Additionally, this is the most diverse student body in KU history, with 14.3 percent of incoming freshmen and 12.8 percent overall identifying as American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian, African-American or Latino. International enrollment increased 11.6 percent.

“The University of Kansas remains a great place to be for a bright, ambitious and diverse student body,” said Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little. “KU is a best value among universities in the nation, and our enrollment of students from Kansas and around the nation and world reflects that.”

Despite tough economic times, enrollment by out-of-state students was stable at 30.8 percent compared to 30.2 percent in fall 2008.

Graduate enrollment increased by 1.9 percent, and enrollment at the medical center campus in Kansas City, Kan., was up 2.4 percent. Undergraduate enrollment held reasonably steady with a 1.2 percent decline.
