Search committee formed to find dean for School of Music

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas officials today announced the formation of a search committee tasked with finding a dean for the new School of Music.

The committee will conduct a nationwide search. John Stephens, professor and director of voice and opera, will chair the committee.

Committee members are Michael Bauer, professor of organ; Martin Bergee, professor and director of music education and music therapy; Joyce Castle, professor of voice and opera; David Hiebert, School of Music supporter; Tami Lee Hughes, assistant professor of violin; Mary Lee Hummert, vice provost for faculty development; Mary Ellen Kondrat, dean of the School of Social Welfare; Steve Leisring, associate professor of trumpet; Scott Murphy, associate professor of music theory and music composition; Rita Riley, director of undergraduate studies for the School of Music; Clarissa Smith, student; Scott Weiss, associate professor of music and director of bands; and Stephanie Zelnick, assistant professor of clarinet.

The School of Music was formed during a realignment of the former School of Fine Arts. Alicia Clair is the interim dean.
