Dole Institute announces events for the fall semester

LAWRENCE — The Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas has announced seven programs for the fall semester, including the 2010 Dole Leadership Prize ceremony, the National Civility Tour’s only Kansas stop and a visit by a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist.

“We are very proud of this lineup,” said Bill Lacy, director of the Dole Institute. “We are honored to be presenting the 2010 Leadership Prize to all the Women Air Service Pilots in World War II. They were a critical part of the war effort, they exhibited amazing courage and leadership skills and they have just begun to get the recognition they deserve.”

The 2010 Dole Leadership Prize will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at the New Century AirCenter in New Century, outside of Olathe.

The Dole Institute also will host Chairman Jim Leach of the National Endowment for the Humanities on his National Civility Tour.

“KU is proud that Chairman Leach chose the Dole Institute of Politics as his only stop in Kansas on his 50-state civility tour,” said Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little.

“Jim Leach is a moderate Republican and a member of the Obama administration, so he’s perfectly positioned to speak to this issue,” Lacy said.

Leach’s speech begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at the Dole Institute.

The fall-semester lineup:

7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, Dole Institute
