Air Force ROTC to commission fall graduates Dec. 18
LAWRENCE — The Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Kansas will commission fall semester graduates at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18.
KU Air Force ROTC commander Lt. Col. Gena R. Stuchbery will address the cadets and their guests at the Jayhawk Room in the Kansas Union. Stuchbery is also a professor of military science.
Stuchbery and Maj. Gary Marsteller, commandant of KU cadets, will administer the oath of office and present the newly commissioned officers with their pins.
KU is one of only 50 universities in the nation offering a ROTC program that represents all branches of the military. Besides training KU students, the ROTC program also trains cadets, midshipmen and officer candidates at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Baker University in Baldwin City, the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Washburn University in Topeka, Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Johnson County Community College in Overland Park and Kansas City Kansas Community College.
The three candidates for commissioning are listed below by hometown, degree earned, high school, officer administering the oath of office, relatives pinning on the rank of office and assignments as newly commissioned second lieutenants.

Bradley A. Schmidt, candidate for a bachelor’s degree in African and African-American studies; Junction City Senior High School; Lt. Col. Gena R. Stuchbery will administer the oath of office; his parents Kay and Ray Schmidt will pin on his rank; he is assigned to Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Ga., as a logistics readiness officer.
JACKSON COUNTY

Britton Cole Hufford, candidate for bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science; Jackson Heights High School, Holton; Maj. Gary Marsteller will administer the oath of office; his parents Mark and Joann Hufford will pin on his rank; he is assigned to Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Okla., as a pilot.
SHERIDAN COUNTY

Tanner Oren Popp, candidate for bachelor’s degree in geography; Hoxie High School; Lt. Col. Gena R. Stuchbery will administer of the oath of office; his parents Keith and Shirley Popp will pin on his rank; he is assigned to Vandenberg Air Force Base in Compoc, Calif., as a combat missile crew officer.
